AEW Dynasty ended on a skyrocketing high as Swerve Strickland clinched the AEW World Championship from Samoa Joe, making history as the first Black man to hold the title. The wrestling community, both within and beyond AEW, has been buzzing, with a slew of reactions pouring in on social media.

Kofi Kingston, the former WWE Champion, delivered a succinct yet powerful tribute with a single word on X (formerly Twitter): “SWERVE!” Mimicking Kingston’s style, AEW’s very own Orange Cassidy posted the same, a one-word salute to the new champion. Meanwhile, Darby Allin, sidelined with an injury but not in spirit, cheered his rival with a rallying “Whose house?” echoing Strickland’s catchphrase across the social media sphere.

Renee Paquette, the voice behind the mic at AEW, shared her joy with the same catchphrase, warmly congratulating the new champion. Even Matt Hardy, having recently transitioned to TNA, took a moment to commend Strickland amidst his praises for other performers, showcasing the camaraderie that transcends company lines.

Swerve Strickland himself took to social media, posting a victorious snapshot with the championship belt, captioned poignantly, “My champion is Black.” This statement not only marked his win but also resonated with a deeper, celebratory note of representation.

The night was doubly significant as Willow Nightingale also captured the TBS Championship, spotlighting a remarkable evening for AEW’s Black athletes. AEW’s Wrestling Administration Coordinator, Will Washington, shared a momentous photo featuring himself alongside Strickland, Nightingale, and other prominent figures, capturing the essence of the celebration.

As Strickland sets his sights on the future, the wrestling world watches eagerly. With a historic rivalry with “Hangman” Adam Page possibly reigniting, and other contenders lining up, the stage is set for some thrilling encounters on AEW Dynamite.
