In the regal world of wrestling, the King of the Ring tournament is like the “Game of Thrones” finale, if everyone was wearing less leather and more spandex. This year, the spectacle will unfold in the opulent city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the desert heat is only outmatched by the fiery competition. On a recent episode of “WWE Raw,” the muscle-bound gladiators started throwing their hats (or should I say, helmets) into the ring.

Leading the charge was GUNTHER, the Austrian powerhouse known as “The Ring General.” Fresh off his 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion—a reign so devilishly long it might as well have been a minor eternity—he declared his entry into the King of the Ring tournament. He’s clearly missing the weight of a crown, even if it’s just a metaphorical one. But no sooner had GUNTHER made his royal intentions known than he was upstaged by the 2021 King of the Ring, Xavier Woods, and his high-flying compadre, Kofi Kingston. They both announced their entries, turning the event into a potential reunion tour of past winners.

And just when you thought the announcements were over, Drew McIntyre, the Scottish Terminator, said he too would seek the throne. His declaration was almost immediately overshadowed by the return of his frenemy Sheamus, setting the stage for what could be a feud more intense than a Scottish winter.

Meanwhile, the women’s side of the tournament remains shrouded in mystery. With the WWE yet to announce contenders for the Queen of the Ring, one wonders if they’re planning a surprise worthy of a royal court. Will it be a battle of former queens, or will a new lady step up to claim the crown?

Stay tuned, folks. The road to royalty is fraught with backstabbing, betrayals, and bodyslams—exactly how every good monarchy should be!
