Get ready, wrestling fans! AEW CEO Tony Khan has dropped a bombshell announcement: Jon Moxley, the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, will compete in an eliminator match at the highly anticipated AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

On May 26, Moxley will face off against the formidable Konosuke Takeshita. If Takeshita wins, he will earn a future shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Moxley captured this prestigious title at NJPW’s Windy City Riot show last month by defeating Tetsuya Naito. The showdown between Moxley and Takeshita was set in motion after Takeshita launched a surprise attack on Moxley during last week’s “AEW Dynamite,” following the Blackpool Combat Club’s victory over Jeff Cobb and Kyle Fletcher.

Takeshita, who has been a standout in DDT Pro-Wrestling in Japan, has yet to clinch a title in NJPW. He has faced Moxley twice in singles matches, both in 2022, with Moxley emerging victorious each time. Their first encounter was also a world title eliminator match when Moxley held the AEW Interim World Championship.

AEW Double or Nothing 2024 is shaping up to be a monumental event with seven matches already announced, including six title bouts. AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland will defend his title against former AEW TNT Champion Christian Cage, while AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm is set to clash with Serena Deeb. Willow Nightingale will defend her AEW TBS Championship against Mercedes Mone in a highly anticipated rematch from their NJPW encounter last year.

Additionally, AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland will battle Malakai Black, and Roderick Strong, the AEW International Champion, will face Will Ospreay. The Anarchy in the Arena match, a staple of Double or Nothing, will once again electrify the crowd as The Elite take on Team AEW.

Mark your calendars for May 26, as AEW Double or Nothing promises to deliver unforgettable moments and intense action!
