In a moment that could only be described as “yuge,” Maxwell Jacob Friedman, our very own MJF, made a thunderous return at Double or Nothing, confronting none other than Adam Cole. And folks, like “The Wolf of Wall Street” Jordan Belfort famously said, MJF is “not f****** leaving” AEW. Tremendous stuff, really.
It all went down after Will Ospreay’s thrilling Continental Championship win over Roderick Strong. Adam Cole hit the stage, running his mouth as usual, and then, the twist—he pulled out that infamous devil mask he used when he backstabbed MJF back in the day.
Cole, with his usual flair, promised the crowd that once his ankle is fully healed, he would “give the devil his due.” Dramatic, right? Well, what followed was a short video on the titantron, showing MJF’s house, his gear, and his signature Burberry scarf. A mysterious figure in the video reassembled a torn-up photo of MJF and Cole from their 2023 tag team days, and boom—MJF’s music hit the arena.
MJF strutted down the ramp, eyes locked on the devil mask in the ring. He and Cole had a tense stare-down before MJF, ever the showman, pulled Cole into a hug only to deliver a low blow. Classic MJF. He then proceeded to suplex Cole and, as Cole writhed in pain, grabbed the mic for a scathing promo.
MJF declared, “I don’t need a New Japan or a Vince McMahon to make MJF, because MJF made MJF.” Powerful words, folks. He stomped on the mask, hit an elbow drop onto it, and tossed it to the crowd. Then, in true MJF fashion, he showed off a new tattoo on the back of his calf that reads “Always bet on yourself,” complete with a poker chip and AEW logo.
He ended his tirade by telling the camera to call him “The Wolf of Wrestling,” making it clear he’s staying with AEW and ending the so-called “bidding war of 2024” between WWE and AEW. What a move!
