Folks, it’s time to don those lucha masks and buckle up because we’ve got a spicy situation brewing in the world of wrestling! Penta El Zero Miedo, one half of the dynamic Lucha Brothers, could be flying into the free agency zone as his AEW contract reportedly expires at the end of the summer. Will he stay or will he go? Only time will tell, but WWE is already circling like a vulture eyeing a prime rib.
Penta, who made his grand entrance into AEW with his brother Rey Fenix in 2019, extended his contract in August 2020. But according to the latest buzz from Lucha Libre Online, Penta’s deal is set to expire between August and September. The million-dollar question is: Have the renegotiations begun? The answer is as elusive as a wrestling storyline spoiler. However, WWE is reportedly interested in snapping him up faster than you can say “¡Cero Miedo!”
While there’s no word on Fenix’s contract status, the discrepancy could be due to injury extensions. The Lucha Brothers have been a force in AEW, clinching the AEW and ROH World Tag Team Championships, and with PAC, they held the AEW World Trios Championship as Death Triangle. Yet, unlike his brother, Penta hasn’t bagged a singles title in AEW.
The Hardy brothers also experienced similar contract timing woes, with Matt Hardy entering free agency in April while Jeff Hardy remains under contract. It’s like AEW’s version of sibling rivalry, but with contracts instead of a backyard brawl.
Penta’s recent outings haven’t been golden either. He lost to Konosuke Takeshita on the May 31 “AEW Rampage” for a spot in the TNT Championship ladder match at Forbidden Door. Teaming up with Fenix and PAC, he aimed to snatch the Unified AEW Trios Titles from Bullet Club Gold at Double or Nothing, but came up short. Up next, he’s slated to face The Butcher on the June 7 “Rampage.” Will this be a turning point or just another bump in the road?
