Folks, hold onto your hats because the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 30 is shaping up to be a barnburner! The AEW TNT Championship will be up for grabs in a high-stakes, four-way ladder match. This match was greenlit by the one and only Christopher Daniels, on behalf of AEW President Tony Khan, after Adam Copeland had to vacate the title due to a fractured tibia at Double or Nothing. Talk about a plot twist!
The first to punch his ticket was Konosuke Takeshita, who defeated Penta El Zero Miedo on the May 31 edition of “AEW Rampage.” Not one to be outdone, current ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe joined the fray by overcoming Brian Cage on the June 5 edition of “AEW Dynamite.” Takeshita and his mentor, Don Callis, were seen scouting the match, and now Takeshita knows he’ll be tangling with the Master of Redneck Kung Fu himself, Mark Briscoe. It’s a clash of styles and skills that promises to be electric!
Now, let’s talk about Mark Briscoe. While he’s yet to clinch a championship in AEW, his resume in Ring of Honor is nothing short of legendary. With 13 ROH Tag Team Championship reigns alongside his late brother Jay, and a tenure as the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion, Briscoe is a force to be reckoned with. He currently holds the ROH World Championship, having dethroned Eddie Kingston at Supercard of Honor.
The final two slots for this epic ladder match are still open, but one man with his eyes on the prize is Jack Perry. The former FTW Champion nearly got a free pass to the TNT Championship courtesy of The Young Bucks following Copeland’s injury. However, Daniels threw a wrench in that plan by setting up the ladder match. Given Perry’s close ties with AEW’s executive vice presidents, don’t be surprised if he finds a way to sneak into the bout, even if he has to leapfrog the qualification process.
