In a tragic chapter for WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, he continues to seek justice for the untimely death of his son, Brian Christopher Lawler, famously known as “Grandmaster Sexay.” Brian tragically took his own life in 2018 after being arrested for DUI. Despite numerous legal troubles following his WWE departure, Jerry Lawler firmly believes that the jail where Brian was held failed in its duty to keep him safe. Since 2019, Lawler has been pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against Hardeman County.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a jury trial for this lawsuit has been scheduled, but it won’t commence until March 31, 2025. Lawler’s lawsuit claims that multiple failings by the county and the jail staff led to Brian’s death. He is seeking $3 million in damages, along with additional compensatory damages aimed at rectifying the jail’s deficiencies to prevent further suicides.
In the midst of this legal battle, Jerry Lawler’s family story continues. Lawler has a grandson through his late son, though they are not very close. Blake Lawler, Brian’s son, seems to have inherited the wrestling talent of his father and grandfather. However, Blake is not inspired by their WWE careers. Instead, he draws inspiration from his stepdad and stepbrother, who attended Christian Brothers High School, and he doesn’t watch professional wrestling. Despite this, Jerry Lawler keeps track of his grandson’s progress in wrestling and feels proud, confident that Brian would have been proud as well.
