Hold onto your wrestling tights, folks! AEW President Tony Khan has dropped a bombshell for next week’s “AEW Dynamite.” The illustrious Mercedes Mone, who recently claimed the AEW TBS Championship, will be defending her title against none other than CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Champion Zeuxis. This announcement promises a showdown of epic proportions.
Mercedes Mone has been on a roll since dethroning Willow Nightingale and taking the TBS title. After a thrilling first defense against Skye Blue on May 29, Mone is set for her second title defense on June 12. In true Forbidden Door spirit, Tony Khan has dipped into Mexico’s wrestling talent pool, pulling out the seasoned and decorated Zeuxis to challenge “The CEO.”
Zeuxis, who has been one half of the CMLL Women’s Tag Team Champions since September 2023 alongside Stephanie Vaquer, brings 16 years of wrestling experience to the ring. Her impressive resume includes a two-year reign as the Mexican National Women’s Champion from 2015 to 2017. WWE fans might remember her from the 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament, where she reached the second round before being bested by the eventual runner-up, Io Shirai (now known as IYO SKY).
This match isn’t just a standalone event. It sets the stage for another clash at Forbidden Door on June 30, where Mone will face Stephanie Vaquer in a high-stakes bout for both the TBS Championship and Vaquer’s NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.
But that’s not all for the June 12 edition of “AEW Dynamite.” Brace yourselves for another thrilling contest as Will Ospreay defends his AEW International Championship against Rey Fenix. Ospreay, looking to keep his winning streak alive, is gearing up for his AEW World Championship match against Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door on June 30.
Tune in next week to see if Mercedes Mone can hold onto her title or if Zeuxis will shake up the AEW landscape with a stunning upset!
