The WWE Money in the Bank 2024 event has wrapped up, leaving behind a whirlwind of action, drama, and broken records. Solo Sikoa stunned fans by pinning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the main event. Sami Zayn successfully defended his WWE Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker, and Drew McIntyre and Tiffany Stratton climbed the metaphorical corporate ladder to snag the coveted Money in the Bank briefcases. Yet, the real smackdown happened outside the ring, as WWE proudly announced that Money in the Bank 2024 has officially set the record for the highest-grossing arena event in Canada in the company’s history.
WWE President Nick Khan couldn’t contain his excitement, stating, “Weekends that bring visitors en masse to our host cities play an important part in our planning process. The results are a testament to our Superstars, our creative team led by Paul Levesque, our media and production team led by Lee Fitting, and, most importantly, our fans who both attended and created our massive viewership.”
With over 45,000 fans cramming into the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, the event was a spectacle like no other. The festivities didn’t end with Money in the Bank; fans were treated to NXT Heatwave, the July 5 edition of “WWE SmackDown,” and the hilarious “Sami Zayn & Friends Do Toronto” comedy show on July 4. The event’s viewership was up by a staggering 46% compared to last year’s event in London, and merchandise sales shattered records set in 2023. If they sold any more t-shirts, they’d need to open a department store.
But the real jaw-dropper came when John Cena, the wrestling legend known for his jorts and never-quit attitude, announced that 2025 will be his final year as a WWE Superstar. Cena’s revelation sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe, with the news racking up over 65 million views across social media in just 24 hours. It’s the most attention Cena’s had since he decided to rock a bright orange ensemble to the ring.
As WWE wraps up its Canadian invasion with the July 8 edition of “WWE Raw” in Ottawa, they’ll be heading back stateside for “WWE NXT” on July 9 and “WWE SmackDown” on July 12. The latter event will take place in Cena’s home state of Massachusetts at the DCU Center in Worcester, where fans are sure to give him a hero’s welcome. All of this builds up to the much-anticipated SummerSlam Premium Live Event at the Cleveland Browns Stadium on August 3.
Stay tuned, folks, because if this past weekend is any indication, WWE is just getting started with the chaos and carnage!
