In a plot twist that would make a soap opera blush, the Bang Bang Gang are no longer the AEW World Trios Champions. At the latest “AEW Collision” tapings in Calgary, interim EVP and master of red tape, Christopher Daniels, stopped Jay White, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn dead in their tracks as they tried to invoke the classic “Freebird rule.” Their plan? Sneak Juice Robinson in to replace the injured White, who’s currently playing the role of “Guy Who Got Beat Up by Adam Page and Christian Cage” on the July 6 “AEW Dynamite.”
For those not in the know, the “Freebird rule,” a stroke of genius by the Fabulous Freebirds back in their NWA glory days, lets any member of a faction defend titles if the group’s got more guys than the original winning team. Instead of greenlighting this switcheroo, Daniels pulled the ultimate power move, stripping the titles from the Bang Bang Gang and setting up a new showdown. Robinson and The Gunns will now tango with The Patriarchy trio of Cage, Killswitch, and Nick Wayne. When? We have no idea, but it’s gonna be epic!
This title turmoil ends the Bang Bang Gang’s nearly three-month reign, which started with a bang (pun intended) when they toppled Billy Gunn and The Acclaimed on April 21 during the Dynasty Zero Hour pre-show. That match didn’t just crown new champs; it also merged the AEW World Trios Championship with the ROH World Six-Man Championship. You can catch this juicy drama on the July 13 “Collision.”
And if that wasn’t enough excitement for you, AEW is on a roll, prepping for the colossal All In event at Wembley Stadium on August 25. The storyline gets thicker than grandma’s gravy, especially after the Owen Hart Cup winners were crowned on the July 10 “Dynamite.” Stay tuned, folks, it’s a wild ride!
