Ladies and gentlemen, gather ’round, because we’ve got some major wrestling news hotter than a jalapeño in a sauna! The legendary “Nature Boy” Ric Flair has spoken out to clear the air regarding his recent comments about John Cena’s impending retirement and the possibility of Cena breaking Flair’s cherished 16-time World Champion record.

At Money in the Bank earlier this month, John Cena, the face that runs the place, announced his plans to hang up his boots by the end of next year. With the clock ticking on Cena’s illustrious career, fans have been buzzing with speculation about whether he’ll seize one last shot at the WWE Title. If Cena pulls off the win, he would surpass Flair’s record, cementing himself as a 17-time World Champion. Now, wouldn’t that be something to write home about?

On “Busted Open Radio,” Ric Flair weighed in on Cena’s retirement. The Nature Boy, ever the diplomat, expressed that he’d have no qualms with Cena breaking the record. However, he also hinted that Triple H might hesitate to let it happen out of respect for Flair’s legacy. Flair added that, in his dream scenario, the record would eventually be held by none other than his daughter, Charlotte Flair, who is currently sitting pretty with 14 World Titles.

After catching some flak for his comments, Flair took to social media on Wednesday to set the record straight in true Ric Flair fashion. Here’s what the 16-time champ had to say:

“There Has Been Way Too Much Attention Brought To This. Let’s Just Set The Record Straight For The Final Time. My First Choice Would Obviously Be The Queen @MsCharlotteWWE. I Think The World Of My Friend @JohnCena, Who Is An Incredible Athlete & Genuine Person! I Will Be The First Person To Shake His Hand & Congratulate Him If He Breaks My Record As I Would For Anybody Who Would Break It. When That Day Comes, It Will Be An Honor! WOOOOO!”

So there you have it, folks. The Nature Boy is ready to pass the torch—or rather, the record—should Cena clinch that 17th title. And let’s be real, when Ric Flair says he’d be honored, you know he means it with a hearty “WOOOOO!”

Cena also announced that he will be gracing us with his presence at both the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41 next year. But, in a bittersweet twist, he confirmed these will be his final appearances as a competitor at these iconic events. So, mark your calendars and prepare the tissues, because it’s going to be an emotional ride.
