Last night’s CMLL Informa was hotter than a jalapeño eating contest, with major announcements that left wrestling fans buzzing. The Lucha Brothers, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Rey Fenix are set to return to Arena Mexico next Friday, bringing along their Death Triangle partner PAC. But that was just the appetizer—the main course was the reveal of some star-studded rosters for the upcoming International Gran Prix in August, featuring heavy hitters from AEW, New Japan, RevPro, and MLW.
Team World is shaping up to be a veritable who’s who of international wrestling talent. CMLL rolled out the red carpet to announce the first five members: MLW’s Ikuro Kuan, former ROH high-flyer Flip Gordon, New Japan/AEW’s Rocky Romero, RevPro dynamo Robbie X, and AEW/ROH’s rising star Kyle Fletcher. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Dave Meltzer spilled the beans on “Wrestling Observer Radio” that former WWE star Harry Smith, aka Davey Boy Smith Jr., would also be joining the fray. CMLL hasn’t confirmed this scoop yet, but fans are already buzzing.
On the home front, Team CMLL isn’t pulling any punches either. The team will be anchored by Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Templario, Los Ingobernables de Japon’s Titan, and Ring of Honor Television Champion Atlantis Jr. The remaining members of Team World are expected to be unveiled next week, while Team CMLL’s final five warriors will be revealed later.
While Rocky Romero is a familiar face in CMLL, and Flip Gordon has been a staple for the past year, this Gran Prix will mark the Arena Mexico debuts for Kuan, Robbie X, and Smith. Meanwhile, Fletcher will be making his second appearance at the legendary venue, following his recent clash with Atlantis Jr. on June 28, where he handed over the ROH TV Title to the young champion.
