Folks, the wrestling world is about to get a whole lot more interesting! “AEW Collision,” the show that usually punches in at 8 PM EST on the TNT channel, has decided to clock in a bit early on Saturday, August 3. Why, you ask? Well, it looks like AEW is sidestepping a head-to-head showdown with WWE’s SummerSlam, which is set to kick off its main show at 7 PM EST.
According to the TNT television schedule, “Collision” will now air at 5 PM EST on August 3. AEW hasn’t put out an official statement yet, but let’s be real: they’re probably trying to avoid a viewership suplex like the one they took on July 6, when “Collision” went head-to-head with WWE’s Money in the Bank. That night, “Collision” ratings plummeted 27% from the previous week, with only 306,000 viewers tuning in and a meager 0.08 in the 18-49 demographic.
The August 3 episode of “Collision” won’t just be a time shift, but also a pre-taped spectacle. Filmed on August 1, it’s part of an AEW/ROH partnership bringing a wrestling bonanza to the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This residency kicks off tomorrow with another “Collision” taping and rolls right into the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view on July 26.
Meanwhile, WWE’s SummerSlam 2024 is ready to rumble at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. The card is stacking up with some heavy hitters: Solo Sikoa from The Bloodline is set to challenge the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. Liv Morgan will defend her WWE Women’s World Championship against the formidable Rhea Ripley. And GUNTHER is going for gold against Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
So, wrestling fans, mark your calendars and set your DVRs! Whether you’re team AEW or team WWE, August 3 is shaping up to be a spectacular night of action.
