Ladies and gentlemen, wrestling fans, and those who just love a good plot twist, get ready for some big news! The legendary tag team duo, The Motor City Machine Guns, are at the center of some major speculation. After parting ways with TNA Wrestling in the spring, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley have been lighting up the independent scene, but the question on everyone’s mind is: where will they land next?
Reports have been flying faster than a Sabin dropkick, and it looks like WWE might be the next destination for this iconic pair. While initial buzz suggested AEW was the frontrunner, the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer notes that WWE has made a more enticing offer. Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful added fuel to the fire on social media, stating that the wrestling community feels the Guns are WWE-bound, though nothing has been set in stone just yet.
“The feeling many have in wrestling is MCMG are going to WWE,” Sapp tweeted, but he was quick to emphasize the uncertainty, adding, “I don’t know how anything can be spoken in definites with them.” Sapp also pointed out that about a month ago, AEW insiders confirmed that Sabin and Shelley hadn’t signed with them. Despite their busy schedules, the Guns seem to be wrapping up their indie appearances, which has only fueled the speculation.
Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley bid farewell to TNA Wrestling back in March and have since thrilled fans both as a duo and in solo matches, including a memorable clash at a Prestige Wrestling event. Their potential move to WWE could shake up the tag team division in a big way.
However, before we get too carried away, it’s worth noting that the Guns are still very much active. They have upcoming bookings for Absolute Intense Wrestling on August 1 in Cleveland, just two days before WWE SummerSlam hits the same city. Additionally, they’re set to face AEW’s Evil Uno and former AEW star Stu Grayson for SMASH Wrestling on August 18. So, while their next long-term home remains a mystery, one thing is clear: The Motor City Machine Guns are far from slowing down.
