Well, folks, it seems that AEW star Skye Blue has unfortunately joined the list of wrestling’s walking wounded after a recent episode of “AEW Collision.” In what can only be described as a gravity-defying mishap, Blue was caught off-guard during a crossbody from the always-intense Hikaru Shida. Picture this: Shida soaring through the air like an eagle, Blue ready to catch her, and then bam! Things went south faster than a snowbird in winter. Blue hit the ground with a yelp and couldn’t continue the match.
Our favorite wrestling insiders, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer, spilled the beans on “Wrestling Observer Radio.” The diagnosis? A broken ankle for poor Skye Blue. Her recovery time is still up in the air, much like Shida was moments before the accident. Despite the pain, Blue was all smiles in a social media post by Kyle Fletcher. Could it be the painkillers, or is she just tougher than the rest of us? You decide!
Before her untimely injury, Skye was on a roll, almost as busy as the proverbial bee. She was right up there with Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Deonna Purrazzo in terms of match count for 2024. Talk about dedication!
Ironically, Skye isn’t the only one to have a run-in with disaster during a crossbody maneuver. Just a few weeks back, Riho, another former AEW Women’s World Champion, broke her wrist in a similar fashion. It’s almost as if crossbodies have it out for the AEW women’s division. Meltzer assures us these are just flukes—unfortunate side effects of the high-octane world of professional wrestling.
With Skye Blue now sidelined, she joins an illustrious list of the injured, including Riho, Yuka Sakazaki, Jamie Hayter, and Julia Hart. It’s a tough business, but here’s hoping Skye’s back on her feet and in the ring soon. Stay strong, Skye! We’ve got our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
