Folks, if you thought the world of sports entertainment couldn’t get any more electrifying, buckle up! The ever-charismatic Pat McAfee, known for his booming voice on WWE SmackDown and his witty analysis on ESPN’s College GameDay, is back and ready to rumble – quite literally.
In September 2022, McAfee took a hiatus from WWE to join ESPN’s College GameDay as a full-time analyst. After dazzling fans through the 2022 and 2023 college football seasons, McAfee found himself unsigned heading into 2024. But, fear not, sports fans – the man himself just confirmed on Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show that he’s returning to College GameDay as the new season kicks off next month.
“When my contract came up after living a dream alongside that crew that is just as talented off camera as they are on camera, I thought long and hard, ‘Am I the right person to be doing this incredible gig?’” McAfee shared in his show’s opening hype package. “There are millions and millions of people that would love to be sitting in my seat. Am I the right guy for it? Is this what I want to do? The only thing that I kept coming back to was ‘Hell f***ing yeah.’ I’m lucky. I’m honored. I’m humbled. I’m grateful, and I’m back.”
And just when you thought McAfee was done surprising us, he returned to WWE in January 2024 as a special guest commentator and an unexpected in-ring competitor at the Royal Rumble. WWE fans went wild, and two days later, it was announced that McAfee would reunite with the legendary Michael Cole, this time as a full-time member of the WWE Raw announce team.
The big question now is how McAfee will juggle his College GameDay duties with his WWE commitments. Will we see him pulling double duty, or will there be a new schedule that accommodates both gigs? One thing’s for sure – wherever McAfee goes, excitement follows!
