The wrestling world is about to explode like a poorly placed firework at a backyard barbecue! The feud we’ve all been salivating over is finally official: Britt Baker will face off against Mercedes Mone for the AEW TBS Championship at AEW All In next month.
After orchestrating a surprise attack on Baker during last Wednesday’s “AEW Dynamite,” Mone, with her new BFF Kamille, stormed a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. This panel, where Baker was among the speakers, also featured a star-studded lineup of AEW talent and the man himself, AEW CEO Tony Khan.
In true dramatic fashion, Mone confronted Baker with all the subtlety of a flying elbow drop, “How are you feeling after last night at ‘AEW Dynamite,’ huh? And another question Britt, how does it feel that you’re never going to be as good as Mercedes Mone? How does it feel that you’re never going to get the TBS Champion ever again? How does it feel that you’re not going to have a match at All In because I will be facing anybody but you.”
Like a reality TV reunion special, the tension was palpable. Baker and Mone’s intense stare-down quickly escalated into a brawl that made a bar fight look like a tea party. It took the combined efforts of Khan, Will Ospreay, Orange Cassidy, and a security guard to break up the melee.
“For weeks, every Wednesday on TBS, since Forbidden Door, you see Dr. Britt Baker and the TBS Champion Mercedes Mone going at it and arguing. I’m sick of it,” Khan declared with the exasperation of a dad on a long car trip, moments before making the match official.
The animosity between Baker and Mone has been brewing like a pot of strong coffee since AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Baker put Mone on notice, declaring her intentions to snatch that TBS title. Since then, they’ve been at each other’s throats with verbal jabs and physical confrontations that would make even the most seasoned soap opera actors blush.
Get your popcorn ready, folks. This is one showdown you won’t want to miss!
