In a fiery rebuttal, AEW CEO Tony Khan has shot down swirling rumors about an alleged media rights deal between AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery. During the ROH Final Battle post-show media scrum, Khan didn’t hold back, pointing fingers directly at WWE for fanning the flames of misinformation.
“I don’t know why WWE PR and why major wrestling media members, who are very credible and have never lied to me, I don’t know why they’re telling people that. It’s none of their business. I mean, WWE PR really gets involved in a lot of things they shouldn’t get involved in. And I can tell you that is very untrue, because when we make a deal for AEW, it’s gonna be a great deal with a big increase over what we’ve been doing,” Khan declared, clearly irked by the rumors.
Despite the chatter, AEW and WBD have not yet cemented an official agreement to extend AEW programming on WBD networks. However, Khan remains confident about AEW’s standing. “We’ve been doing great business here, despite what they’re trying to do to us,” he asserted, emphasizing the company’s robust performance.
Khan provided an update on the ongoing negotiations earlier this month, characterizing the discussions as productive. He also hinted at the possibility of AEW events being added to WBD’s Max streaming service, a topic that has surfaced during the talks. Nevertheless, until Khan officially announces the completion of the media rights deal, he advises everyone to take any related news with a grain of salt.
