Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up! We’re diving headfirst into the latest wrestling drama hotter than a steel chair to the back. Last week, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the cerebral assassin himself, dropped a bombshell in an interview with The Daily Mail. He hinted at a possible return for Brock “The Beast” Lesnar to WWE, despite Lesnar being wrapped up in a scandalous lawsuit. Triple H said the company would be “open to the conversation” about Brock’s return when he’s ready. But wait, it gets juicier!
Enter the wrestling world’s resident truth-teller, Dave Meltzer. On his “Wrestling Observer Radio” show, Meltzer wasn’t buying Triple H’s diplomatic double-speak. “It’s the same thing as what Paul Levesque said at the Rumble. ‘Oh, yeah, well — we talked but it’s not any big deal,'” Meltzer quipped. “No, the whole thing was freaking scripted into the show and pulled at the last minute because of the lawsuit and … that has not changed no matter what he said.”
Meltzer wasn’t pulling any punches. He pointed out that Levesque’s comments made it sound like Lesnar, the part-time powerhouse, picks his own schedule. In reality, Meltzer claims the company typically dictates Lesnar’s dates based on his contract. Triple H saying Lesnar is welcome back anytime? Meltzer smells a face-saving maneuver.
“The key is that Paul does not want to mention that lawsuit, ever,” Meltzer continued, basically accusing Triple H of playing verbal dodgeball. “He doesn’t ever want it brought up and anything that would relate to that, he’s going to come up with something to say to avert saying that.”
So what’s the takeaway? Triple H isn’t about to confirm Lesnar’s involvement in the ongoing investigation, so his comments were likely the safest play. Yet, Meltzer believes WWE will roll out the red carpet for Lesnar as soon as the legal dust settles. Will Brock Lesnar rise like a phoenix from the ashes of controversy? Only time will tell.
