Wrestling fans, brace yourselves! When former WWE superstar Becky Lynch took to Instagram on Sunday, she unintentionally sent the internet into a tizzy. Promoting her A&E biography, Lynch penned, “it’s been a helluva career,” which promptly led to fans clutching their pearls and speculating about her hanging up her boots for good. Talk about a plot twist!
However, according to a new update from Fightful Select, the panic might be a bit premature. WWE officials “close to the situation” have stated that if Lynch is indeed retiring, they haven’t received the memo. In fact, sources mentioned that they would probably not be finding out through social media if the beloved wrestler decided to call it quits.
One insider did note, however, that since Lynch is no longer under contract, she could technically retire without giving WWE a heads-up. Oh, the drama!
In her Instagram post, Lynch wrote, “Being the Man for all of you was an honor, being the mom for her is a privilege,” accompanied by an adorable photo of her holding the championship alongside her daughter. She thanked fans for tuning in to her biography on A&E, leaving everyone wondering if this was her subtle way of saying goodbye to the squared circle.
Lynch’s WWE contract expired on June 1, and she’s now a free agent. WWE sources have expressed their respect for Lynch’s decision to take time off and spend it with her family, emphasizing that she would “always be welcomed back.” Before taking her extended hiatus, Lynch lost the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan at King & Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia and was last seen on WWE TV losing a rematch to Morgan on the May 27 episode of “WWE Raw.”
So, is Becky Lynch retiring or just taking a well-deserved break? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the WWE Universe is hanging on her every word!
