Well, folks, SummerSlam was hotter than a jalapeno in a sauna! We saw the main event showdown where Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa traded punches like a couple of 5th graders fighting over the last slice of pizza. But in a twist nobody saw coming, Jacob Fatu, one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champs and a Bloodline bruiser, decided to crash the party. And crash he did—right through the announcer’s table with a top rope splash that had us all holding our breath (and him holding his leg).
Now, you might be wondering, “How’s Jacob Fatu doing after that high-flying blunder?” Well, Tuesday morning’s “Wrestling Observer Radio” with Dave Meltzer had the scoop. Turns out, WWE believes Fatu’s leg is about as serious as my neighbor’s obsession with collecting garden gnomes—not that bad. But here’s the kicker: we still don’t know if Fatu will be in action soon or if he’ll be sidelined, sipping piña coladas on his couch.
Meltzer also spilled the beans on the real reason behind Fatu’s epic splash-and-dash. It was all part of the grand plan to avoid any awkward family reunions with Roman Reigns, who made a dramatic return at the end of the match. WWE wanted all eyes on Reigns and Sikoa, who got a Superman Punch so powerful, it probably left a dent in his family tree. Rhodes then took the opportunity to pin Sikoa and hold onto his Undisputed Universal Title like it was the last Twinkie on earth.
Expect the drama to continue on “SmackDown” this week. If Fatu’s leg isn’t throwing a tantrum, he’ll be there with the rest of the Bloodline to have a little chat with Reigns. Spoiler alert: it’s probably not going to be a friendly tea party.
