After what can only be described as the most extended championship vacation in AEW history, the Young Bucks are finally putting their AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line during next week’s AEW Dynamite. That’s right, folks, after 112 days of holding those shiny belts like they were priceless antiques, Nick and Matt Jackson are ready to defend them against The Acclaimed. Apparently, the Bucks have been living by the motto: “Why rush into things when you’ve got all the time in the world?”
The match was set in stone after FTR flexed their wrestling muscles by defeating The Outrunners on AEW Collision. The Acclaimed’s Anthony Bowens and Max Caster, who earned their shot in a Title Eliminator match way back in June, will finally get their chance to challenge the Bucks. This upcoming showdown will mark the first time the Young Bucks have defended their titles during their current reign, making it a historic moment of “better late than never” in AEW.
For those keeping track, the Young Bucks captured the gold at AEW Dynasty in April after a ladder match tournament that saw them emerge as three-time champions by defeating FTR. Since then, they’ve wrestled at Double or Nothing, Forbidden Door, and Blood & Guts, but apparently decided that defending their titles was something best saved for a special occasion—or maybe just when the stars align, or perhaps when the contract demands it.
Speaking of contracts, recent reports suggest that the Bucks’ limited television appearances may be due to their contractual terms. In simpler terms, they’ve been enjoying a light schedule that doesn’t require them to show up on TV too often. Why defend your titles when you can just hang out, right?
In any case, the long wait is over. The Young Bucks are back in action, and the AEW World Tag Team Championships are finally going to see the light of day once more. Tune in to AEW Dynamite next week to see if the Bucks can retain their titles or if The Acclaimed will snatch those belts away from the hands that haven’t quite gotten used to holding them!
