Since her explosive debut in AEW this past March, Mercedes Mone has been on a mission. Not only has she claimed the AEW TBS Championship and the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship in the span of just a few months, but she’s also set her sights on something much bigger: leading the charge for the next phase of women’s wrestling. And the revolution continues this weekend at AEW All In, where she’s set to defend her TBS title against none other than Britt Baker.
In the latest edition of her “Mone Mag” newsletter, Mone didn’t hold back as she shared her thoughts on the match and her broader ambitions for the AEW women’s division. She even threw some shade at a few unnamed wrestling pundits who might have underestimated her resolve.
“So here I am, finally at this year’s All In as the face of AEW, a history-making double champion, no less (fully aware my old guy podcasters will have a field day with that),” Mone wrote. She went on to praise Baker, acknowledging her role as the first woman signed to AEW and a pioneer in her own right. “Britt laid the groundwork and foundation for this ever-evolving women’s division, and that’s something not to be taken lightly.”
But Mone’s message didn’t stop there. She emphasized that the work she, Baker, and the other women in AEW are doing is just beginning. “Yes, Charlotte, Bayley, Becky, and I led phase one of the women’s revolution. We disrupted the business in the best and most necessary way. But with me coming here, I promise that another disruption to the business of women’s wrestling is coming. Phase Two is just getting started.”
Mone also took a pointed jab at WWE, highlighting that AEW All In will feature three women’s matches, a stark contrast to the limited spotlight women sometimes receive in other promotions. “When Mania was one night, how many women’s matches were there? Not three. Moreover, when the guys’ matches went too long in WWE, it was the women’s matches that got cut for time.”
