Folks, the American Dragon, now AEW World Champion, is keeping us all on the edge of our seats—literally and figuratively. After capturing the AEW World Championship at All In, Bryan Danielson admitted he has no clue what the future holds for him in the wrestling world. But don’t worry, he’s promised to shed some light on the situation this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.
In the post All In press conference, Danielson, who has been teasing retirement more than a few times lately, confessed that his mind has been more focused on getting through Sunday’s match with Swerve Strickland than on any long-term plans. “I, honestly, haven’t thought about my future at all, past tonight [laughs],” he said, making it clear that his next steps are as much a mystery to him as they are to the rest of us. But fear not—he’ll be in Champaign, Illinois for AEW Dynamite, and he’s promised to have an announcement ready.
When pressed on whether his career might come to a close at the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view in October, which will take place in his home state of Washington, Danielson shrugged off any definitive answers. “Honestly, like I said, I have no—this was my sole focus… is tonight. I was very happy with how things turned out and then everything going forward I’m gonna have to think about,” he said, keeping us all guessing.
The most heartwarming moment of the conference came when Danielson’s daughter, sitting on his lap, was asked if she wanted her dad to come home. Her enthusiastic “yes” prompted Danielson to wonder aloud how he could possibly ignore her request. This, folks, is what makes the man a true champion—both in and out of the ring.
Earlier this year, Danielson made it clear that his desire to retire stems from wanting to spend more time with his children. And let’s not forget, his body has taken quite the beating over the years, with the AEW star mentioning that he’s in need of neck surgery.
So, what does the future hold for Bryan Danielson? Retirement? One last epic run? Or perhaps something entirely unexpected? We’ll have to tune in to AEW Dynamite this Wednesday to find out. But one thing’s for sure—whatever the American Dragon decides, it’s going to be must-see TV.
