Folks, the high-flying, fast-talking, travel-challenged AEW star Lio Rush has found himself grounded, and not in the way we’re used to seeing. Due to what we can only assume was a vicious travel mix-up (possibly involving a delayed flight and a very uncooperative TSA agent), Rush was forced to cancel his appearance at Revolution Pro Wrestling’s “Global Wars UK” event. That’s right—Rush made it all the way to the UK, only to get held up like a heel in a headlock.
The official word from RevPro on X (formerly known as Twitter, folks, but we’re still not sure what to call it) broke the sad news: “Lio is safely in the UK now but won’t be able to make it in time.” Translation: Lio’s here, but apparently not even the Speed Force can get him to Doncaster in time. Rush was set to take on CMLL star Mascara Dorada, but the wrestling gods had other plans.
Enter NJPW star Yota Tsuji, who subbed in to save the day. Now, with Rush stuck in the UK for the weekend, there’s a glimmer of hope that he might pop up at NJPW’s Royal Quest IV on Sunday. No promises yet, folks, but when Lio’s in town, anything can happen. Stay tuned for a surprise dropkick into your hearts—or the ring.
For those keeping track of Rush’s stellar indie run, he’s been tearing it up in RevPro lately. Just last month, Rush claimed the 2024 British J-Cup, slicing through Cameron Khai, Kid Lykos II, and AEW’s very own Dante Martin in the finals. And he didn’t stop there! The man stayed to beat TNA’s Leon Slater in a show-stealing match.
Back in AEW, however, things weren’t as rosy. Rush faced off against Shelton Benjamin on the October 16 AEW Dynamite—Benjamin’s first AEW match—and let’s just say it didn’t go well. Rush was absolutely sheltoned, if that’s a word (it should be). To top it off, after the match, MVP slid a Hurt Syndicate business card onto Rush’s body. MVP’s been handing those things out like candy, giving one to The Acclaimed and TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Could Lio be the latest recruit? We’ll see.
