Folks, the legend of Vince McMahon’s never-ending quest to rewrite reality has grown even more chaotic, as former WWE writers are once again opening up about his wild obsession with ripping up scripts mere hours before Raw went live. In a Rolling Stone tell-all, several ex-WWE scribes—who remained anonymous to avoid the wrath of Vince’s well-oiled machine—spilled the beans on what it was like trying to satisfy the whims of a billionaire who seemingly decided what was going to happen after the cameras started rolling.
“By the time Monday hit, we knew it was a joke,” one anonymous former writer said. “You could feel it coming: we’d get to the production meeting, and surprise—the script we spent a week on would go up in flames. I started to think we weren’t writers at all. We were Vince McMahon transcribers.”
Ouch! Now, while most of us might enjoy a good bit of spontaneous creativity, the former writer insists that this wasn’t some last-minute genius flowing through Vince’s veins. Nope. Instead, it felt more like McMahon enjoyed using his creative veto like a steel chair to the head—keeping everyone guessing, but not in a fun way.
“I think Vince enjoyed the manipulation,” the writer explained. “He liked changing things. He liked keeping people on their toes. It wasn’t about making the show better. It was about making people squirm.”
And squirm they did! According to the writers, a WWE creative job wasn’t your average 9-to-5 gig. Imagine working late into the night, grinding away on a storyline only for Vince to roll in with a plot twist so absurd that even M. Night Shyamalan would wince. Late meetings, constant rewrites, and the ever-present threat of Vince flipping the script (literally and figuratively) made this job more chaotic than a Royal Rumble where everyone goes over the top rope.
The writers noted that things have changed a bit since 2023, after the Endeavor merger and TKO Group Holdings backed Paul “Triple H” Levesque as WWE’s creative head. Triple H, with his business casual attitude and regular presence on WWE TV, has brought some much-needed stability to the process. But back in the McMahon days? It was like trying to finish a puzzle while Vince was gleefully throwing pieces out the window.
As of now, Vince is no longer at the creative helm, instead awaiting the results of a federal investigation involving allegations from former legal assistant Janel Grant. It seems, for Vince, even reality itself is a bit of a rewrite these days.
