When the going gets tough, the wrestling world puts on its cape. TNA star Chris Bey recently sustained a severe neck injury during TNA Impact tapings in Detroit, sending shockwaves through the wrestling community. The situation inspired a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses and support Bey’s long road to recovery. And the generosity? Absolutely phenomenal.
The GoFundMe description is equal parts rallying cry and heartfelt support for Bey. “Chris Bey, ultimate finesser and TNA superstar, was injured during a [TV taping],” it reads. “Let’s do this as a team of fans and supporters of this living legend!” As of now, the campaign has raised $29,548 of its $30,000 goal, fueled by donations from wrestling stars across WWE, AEW, TNA, and the indie circuit.
Top contributors include Matthew Hardy ($3,000), Chris Jericho ($2,500), and Cody Runnels (better known as Cody Rhodes) with $2,000. The unique number crunching continued with Justine Varnado (aka Mercedes Moné) adding $888, a wink to her eight-sided empire in Japan, and WWE’s Karrion Kross generously matching Hardy’s $3,000 donation. The page reads like a star-studded guest list, with everyone from QT Marshall and Raj Dhesi to Danhausen (naturally, $200) throwing their support behind Bey.
Bey’s injury occurred during a tag match where he and Ace Austin squared off against none other than the Hardy Boyz. Post-match, Bey was taken to a local hospital for an MRI and underwent surgery. TNA reports he’s already in high spirits, joking around and talking shop in true wrestler fashion. AJ Francis even started a “Pray 4 Bey” hashtag, sparking an outpouring of support from fans and wrestlers alike.
So, here’s to Chris Bey, the wrestling world’s “ultimate finesser.” He’s got a long journey ahead, but with this much support, he’ll have plenty of fuel for the fight.
