After two decades of grinding on the independent wrestling circuit, TNA’s Josh Alexander has announced his retirement from indie bookings. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the former TNA World Champion shared his decision to step away from the relentless demands of independent wrestling, passing the torch to the next generation of Canadian talent.

The Long Road to Retirement

In his post, Alexander reflected on the sacrifices and rewards of his indie career:

“I’ve loved my time in the independents these past 20 years. I’ve done amazing things, worked with amazing people, and got to travel the world performing in front of amazing fans. That being said, I’m tired of the hustle. It’s time for the next crop to step up and fill whatever void I may leave behind in the Canadian scene.”

Alexander expressed gratitude to the promotions, wrestlers, and fans that shaped his journey, even referencing the countless miles driven to fulfill his commitments. Despite the grueling nature of indie wrestling, he credited the grind for giving him a livelihood, recalling his early days supplementing his income as a tire technician.

And, of course, he left fans with the quintessential wrestling farewell:

“It’s not goodbye. It’s just see you later.”

The Road Ahead with TNA

While retiring from the indies, Alexander isn’t hanging up his boots entirely. He remains a cornerstone of TNA Wrestling, where his accolades include two World Championship reigns, the second of which lasted a record-breaking 335 days. A Triple Crown Champion and a top 10 contender in the 2023 PWI 500, Alexander has solidified himself as one of wrestling’s most consistent performers.

What’s Next?

As Alexander shifts his focus solely to TNA, fans are speculating about potential interest from WWE or AEW. Though he came up short against AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita in October during a Maple Leaf Wrestling event, the match hinted at Alexander’s ability to hang with the best on a global stage.

For now, however, Alexander’s focus seems clear: enjoying a slightly less chaotic schedule while continuing to make history with TNA.
