In a move that proves Tony Khan might actually sleep less than a caffeinated raccoon, the AEW CEO is reportedly looking to beef up the Full Gear 2024 card with a second women’s match. That’s right, folks—after weeks of championship chaos, Khan is apparently considering bringing Deonna Purrazzo back to the AEW ring to face Anna Jay this Saturday.

The Backstory: More Twists Than a M. Night Shyamalan Plot

According to Fightful Select, Purrazzo, a three-time Impact Knockouts Champion and certified submission magician, could return to AEW after her last match in September (where she lost to Hikaru Shida). The report hints that she’s ready to lock horns with Anna Jay, who’s been on her own mission to take names and steal the spotlight.

If this happens, it’ll be a rematch of their January 2024 showdown on AEW Dynamite, where Purrazzo came out on top. This time, however, with Full Gear’s electric atmosphere, it’s bound to be bigger, badder, and—let’s face it—probably involve a table or two.

The Road to Redemption

Anna Jay recently stepped into the spotlight by challenging AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May on AEW Collision last week. Spoiler alert: Jay didn’t leave with gold, but she did leave with fans impressed by her tenacity. Purrazzo, meanwhile, has been sitting out since September, and there’s buzz she might lead a faction in AEW. A win over Jay could kickstart that rumored faction and put Purrazzo back in the spotlight.

Full Gear’s Growing Card

If Khan locks in this match, it’ll join a stacked lineup featuring only one other women’s bout—Mercedes Moné vs. Kris Statlander for the AEW TBS Championship.

For now, Full Gear’s main card already includes:

  • Jon Moxley defending his AEW World Championship against Orange Cassidy (expect blood, sweat, and probably a stolen chainsaw).
  • Konosuke Takeshita vs. Ricochet for the AEW International Championship in a gravity-defying spectacle.
  • A fatal four-way tag team match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, plus five other bouts.

Oh, and let’s not forget “Big Boom” A.J. against QT Marshall on the pre-show. They’ll be kicking things off with a match sure to make fans question why it’s not on the main card.

A Step in the Right Direction?

Adding a second women’s match is a step towards addressing criticism that AEW doesn’t give its women’s division enough time in the spotlight. But will it be enough to satisfy fans hungry for more representation? That remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: if Purrazzo vs. Jay makes the cut, it could be the sleeper hit of the night.
