AEW’s highly anticipated Australian debut, AEW Grand Slam Australia, set for February 15, 2025, at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, may be making some last-minute changes—and not the exciting kind. With the stadium’s 50,000-plus capacity and pro-wrestling history in the making on the line, sluggish ticket sales are forcing AEW to consider moving the event to a smaller venue.
According to a report from Fightful Select, the decision to relocate could be announced imminently. WrestleTix, a reliable tracker of wrestling ticket sales, has observed multiple adjustments to the seating map in recent weeks, a clear indication of challenges behind the scenes. While no official ticket count has been provided, the signs point to a smaller arena becoming the likely destination for the company’s first Australian show.
Originally envisioned as the latest in AEW’s string of stadium events—following the success of the All In shows at Wembley Stadium and upcoming stadium spectacles in Texas and Tokyo—Grand Slam Australia had big aspirations. This event also marks the first Grand Slam to move away from its traditional Arthur Ashe Stadium home in Queens, NY. However, the high expectations may not have aligned with the local market’s appetite for the event.
Grand Slam Australia was poised to follow in the footsteps of WWE’s major successes in the region, including Super Showdown in Melbourne (2018) and Elimination Chamber in Perth earlier this year. But as it stands, AEW may need to recalibrate its plans to ensure its Australian debut is still a memorable one.
Stay tuned as AEW addresses these changes—and as February approaches, the wrestling world waits to see how this gamble Down Under will play out.
