Penta El Zero Miedo’s future in wrestling is finally coming into focus. After months of speculation about his AEW contract status, reports now suggest that the luchador will officially become a free agent next week. Fightful Select confirms that Penta’s deal is set to expire, and unless something unexpected happens, the former AEW Tag Team and Trios Champion will likely depart the company.

The uncertainty surrounding Penta’s contract began back in August, when it was rumored he was WWE-bound. However, Penta remained coy, stating his “present” was with AEW. Meanwhile, his brother Rey Fenix had time added to his own AEW deal, delaying any potential reunion of the Lucha Brothers. Previous reports hinted that Penta, like Fenix, had additional time tacked onto his contract due to injuries, but now it seems the wait is over.

While WWE is the most speculated destination for Penta, Fightful noted that no one within WWE has officially discussed bringing him in. If WWE doesn’t snap him up—or if Penta chooses to wait for Fenix to join him—he won’t lack for opportunities. Numerous independent promotions are reportedly eager to work with the charismatic luchador, who remains a fan favorite.

Though Penta’s U.S. wrestling activities have slowed recently, he’s stayed busy in Mexico, competing through late July and early August. His last in-ring performance was in September against former AAA star DMT Azul. Since then, Penta has only made non-wrestling appearances, adding to the intrigue about his next move.

Will Penta follow the path to WWE, reunite with his brother in the indies, or carve out a new chapter elsewhere? The wrestling world eagerly awaits his next act.
