In a tale as old as time (or at least as old as wrestlers trying to out-grunt each other), AEW’s towering titan Brody King is leaving the Continental Classic for a brief pitstop at Wrestle Dynasty—and he’s bringing his big-boy pants. The man with the tattooed fury has officially responded to NJPW’s David Finlay, who issued an open challenge as part of his ongoing “I’ll Fight Anybody Because I’m Tough™” campaign. This slobber-knocker-in-waiting is scheduled for January 5, where New York’s MSG will transform into a battlefield for beards and bragging rights.

Finlay, the reigning IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion and leader of Bullet Club (aka the most exclusive gang for wrestlers who love throwing too-sweet hand signals), didn’t hold back when inviting challengers from anywhere in the wrestling cosmos. His bark found its bite when King, in a video message to NJPW, declared war:

“You have cemented yourself as one of the most dangerous men in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. From the carcass, you took the discarded pieces and you built a dynasty. On January 5, at Wrestle Dynasty, I will take your dynasty and turn it back into a carcass. David Finlay, your War Dogs are all bark, this dog bites.”

Oh, we’re biting already! And not just into popcorn—this match promises to be meatier than a Chicago deep dish.

History Brewing Like Stale Coffee

This won’t be the first time King and Finlay lock horns, as their paths have intertwined in ROH and NJPW tag matches. But this? This is their first televised singles showdown, where there are no partners to tag in, just pure chaos.

A Road of Obstacles and Ospreays

Brody King isn’t exactly lounging in the lap of luxury heading into this war. He’s got at least three matches left in the Continental Classic, squaring off against Ricochet, Will Ospreay, and Komander—basically the wrestling equivalent of trying to fight the Power Rangers.

Meanwhile, Finlay has his hands full defending the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against Yota Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4, just one night before his Wrestle Dynasty clash. The man isn’t just burning the candle at both ends; he’s setting the entire thing on fire.

Will King’s Continental Classic campaign leave him fresh and ferocious, or gassed like a ‘92 Chevy? Will Finlay survive Wrestle Kingdom 19 and still have enough Bullet Club swag to fend off the AEW powerhouse?

January 5 can’t come soon enough. Pack your popcorn, your foam fingers, and maybe a first-aid kit. Wrestle Dynasty just got a whole lot messier.
