Rey Fenix, one-half of the high-flying Lucha Brothers, just turned up the heat on AEW management, and it’s not with a lucha libre torch. Fenix recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to air grievances that would make even CM Punk’s infamous complaints sound like polite suggestions.
“I needed a doctor, and you ignored me for months,” Fenix posted, adding fuel to the ongoing fire surrounding AEW’s treatment of talent. His comments come after he described the company’s behavior as “inhumane,” possibly tied to the drama surrounding his and his brother Penta El Zero Miedo’s contracts.
While Penta has left AEW following the expiration of his deal, Fenix remains under contract after injury time extended his tenure—much to his apparent displeasure. His frustrations mirror past accusations against AEW’s medical handling, including CM Punk’s claim that the company ignored his medical bills, a charge AEW boss Tony Khan has denied.
The backstage drama isn’t confined to health issues. Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone reported that rumors of the Lucha Brothers eyeing WWE were false but hinted that a deeper reason exists for their dissatisfaction. Fenix seemed to validate this report, replying, “So far the most accurate comment.”
Why Fenix chose to speak out while still under contract is anyone’s guess, but it’s clear he’s willing to risk consequences. Whether it’s a fine, backstage heat, or a steel-cage meeting with Tony Khan, one thing is certain: Fenix’s voice has joined a growing chorus of AEW talent raising concerns about the promotion’s inner workings.
For now, fans can only watch and wait, because in pro wrestling, drama behind the curtain is sometimes more captivating than the action in the ring.
