Ladies and gentlemen, the powerhouse known as Alex Hammerstone has been hit with a tough break. The TNA standout and human wrecking ball is officially out of action after undergoing knee surgery. At just 33 years old, Hammerstone was riding high on his biggest year yet—until Thanksgiving turkey wasn’t the only thing carved up during the Turkey Bowl match at Turning Point.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hammerstone sustained the injury during the match on November 29. Ever the warrior, he was still advertised for his three-way tag match at Final Resolution but ultimately had to bow out. While no official timeline has been provided, Meltzer speculates a multi-month recovery is in the cards, leaving TNA fans to anxiously await his return.
Hammerstone’s scheduled partner, Jake Something, opted to fly solo against PCO, Sami Callihan, and The Rascalz rather than find a replacement. If nothing else, it proved Hammerstone’s absence is a void too big to fill.
This injury caps what has otherwise been a banner year for Hammerstone. From his debut at Hard to Kill in January, where he faced off against Josh Alexander in a bruising showdown, to his epic Last Man Standing clash with Alexander at Rebellion, Hammerstone has been one to watch. He even made waves outside TNA, wrestling Oba Femi and Tony D’Angelo thanks to the ongoing TNA-WWE partnership.
The injury is undoubtedly a setback, but if there’s one thing we know about Hammerstone, it’s that he doesn’t stay down for long—unless it’s part of the match stipulation. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and an even more impressive comeback.
