Jake “The Snake” Roberts is grappling with a new opponent in 2025, and it’s not in the squared circle. On his podcast, The Snake Pit, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed he’s recovering from a tough bout with pneumonia, compounded by existing health challenges that would make anyone tap out.

“I got incredibly sick. I wound up going to the hospital,” Roberts explained. “Come to find out, I had pneumonia. That’s not a good thing for me. I already had COPD. And to get pneumonia is like, you’re flirting with disaster there.”

At 69, the “Master of the DDT” isn’t just dodging pneumonia’s chokehold. His hospital stay uncovered new health issues, including blood in his urine, low iron levels due to internal bleeding, and a heart condition that needs addressing. True to form, Roberts remains candid about his situation, sprinkling his trademark dark humor into the mix.

“I can’t wait to have a camera shoved up my a**, and one down my throat, and they meet in the middle,” he quipped, proving that even when life delivers a piledriver, Roberts can still cut a promo.

Jake’s Legacy and Resilience

Since 2020, Roberts has been part of AEW, primarily as a coach and on-screen manager. While his time in the ring has long passed, his sharp wit and storied career have kept him a fan favorite. However, his tenure has been punctuated by various health battles, including foot surgery in 2021 and ongoing respiratory issues that required oxygen.

Despite the setbacks, Roberts has credited his sobriety—achieved in the early 2010s—with giving him a second lease on life. Sobriety even rekindled his relationship with ex-wife Cheryl, famous for her involvement in his iconic 1988 feud with “Ravishing” Rick Rude.

Roberts’ most recent AEW appearance came in October, where he managed La Faccion Ingobernables. But with a few medical procedures on the horizon, he’s taking time to focus on his health.
