In the latest installment of “Things You Wish Wouldn’t Happen Right Before the Royal Rumble,” WWE’s “Raw” superstar Dakota Kai is reportedly out of action due to a concussion. According to PWInsider, the Damage CTRL member will sit this one out until she clears WWE’s notoriously thorough concussion protocol—a process that’s as much science as it is paperwork.

Now, Dakota Kai isn’t just any name on the injury list. She’s practically wrestling’s “Can’t Catch a Break” poster child. Last week, she teamed with IYO SKY against Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark on Raw. The week before, she made it all the way to the finals of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament, only to lose to Lyra Valkyria. So close, yet so concussed!

This setback comes on the heels of Kai’s triumphant return from a knee injury that sidelined her for months. And let’s not forget that she spent nearly a year rehabbing a torn ACL in 2023. Between her knees and now her noggin, Kai’s body has been through more twists and turns than the average Monday Night Raw storyline.

Dakota’s recent career has been a rollercoaster—she made a shocking comeback in March, betrayed Bayley like a wrestling soap opera should, and rejoined Damage CTRL as part of the faction’s Evil-but-Stylish Crew (patent pending). From being released in 2022 to returning as part of Bayley’s SummerSlam crew, Kai’s wrestling career is basically the plot of a Netflix limited series: heartbreak, redemption, betrayal, and a concussion to top it off.

With the Royal Rumble looming, fans are left wondering: will Dakota Kai be medically cleared in time to take part in one of WWE’s most chaotic spectacles? Or will she be watching from the sidelines, plotting her next heelish masterpiece? Either way, it’s a bummer for Kai, but at this point, her resilience has reached legendary status.

I like ice cream, taking a back seat, wondering who I am, and pretending kayfabe is real. May or may not be the Real Dark Brandon. For the LOLZ. MALARKEY!
