Folks, big news coming out of AEW—HUGE. It turns out that even Tony Khan might have realized that his championship collection is looking a little too much like a kid who just discovered eBay. According to reports, AEW is considering merging the International Championship and the Continental Championship—because apparently, there is such a thing as too many belts. Who knew?

Sources say this idea has been floating around for months, and get this—people backstage actually consider it a “firm creative plan.” A “firm” plan in AEW? Stunning. Almost as stunning as CM Punk lasting more than two months in a locker room without throwing hands.

The big question remains: Who gets to hold the new, slightly-less-confusing championship? We don’t know yet. Will Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada have to fight it out? Will the titles get carried separately like AEW’s version of a two-for-one sale? Or will AEW debut yet another championship with a fancy name like the Intercontinental Intergalactic Undisputed Platinum Championship of the Universe? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, Okada is still defending his Continental Championship like it actually means something, having just fended off Brody King for the 11th time. That’s right—Okada has more successful defenses than some AEW champions have title reigns. And now, AEW is running a Dynasty International Eliminator Tournament (yes, that’s the real name) to determine who gets to challenge Omega at AEW Dynasty. Because what’s better than a tournament? TWO tournaments!

At the end of the day, one thing is clear—AEW’s belt situation might finally be getting under control. Maybe next, they’ll merge the 84 trios titles, the 47 tag belts, and whatever else they’ve got floating around. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
