Chris Jericho, rockstar, wrestling wizard, and living embodiment of a dad who just discovered TikTok, is once again doing the absolute most. On AEW Dynamite, the self-declared “Ocho” issued a challenge straight out of a telenovela: Bandido’s sacred mask vs. Jericho’s ROH World Championship. The match will go down at AEW Dynasty on April 6, live from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia—home of cheesesteaks, brotherly love, and now, high-stakes luchador drama.
This bold move follows a particularly awkward Saturday, when Jericho’s attempt to humiliate Bandido and his gravity-defying brother Gravity (yes, that’s his name, no notes) backfired faster than a scooter in a Waffle House parking lot. Bandido snatched his brother’s mask right back from Jericho like it was a Costco sample and things have escalated very quickly since.
On Dynamite, Jericho laid it all out, channeling the energy of a man who’s had just enough red wine to make questionable life decisions:
“You want your revenge? Fine. But I want something too. Your mask.”
Yes, Jericho is putting his ROH World Title—captured last October in a ladder match against Mark Briscoe—on the line. But in exchange, Bandido must wager his mask, a deeply sacred piece of lucha libre heritage and also a phenomenal way to avoid awkward airport encounters.
It’s worth noting Bandido has only risked his mask once before, in a 2022 lucha libre Thunderdome match featuring 15 men, flying limbs, and the ever-unfortunate Jack Evans, who lost his hair and his dignity. This time, it’s one-on-one, with legacy and gold both at stake.
And because this show needed even more chaos, the event will also feature Jon Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title. So, in summary: blood, masks, titles, and more possible unlicensed pyrotechnics than a Fourth of July backyard party.
AEW Dynasty. April 6. Bring snacks and emotional support.
