AEW has been watching WWE raid the free-agent market like a Black Friday sale, but it looks like they’ve finally landed a big one. While WWE scooped up Penta, Jordynne Grace, and Ricky Starks, AEW is expected to add a former TNA World Champion to their ranks very soon—none other than Josh Alexander.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Alexander is either very close to signing or has already signed with AEW. The sources? AEW insiders, Alexander’s camp, and possibly a few overexcited fans on Twitter.
Why AEW? Because Barry Bloom Has That “Big Money” Magic
WWE apparently had interest in Alexander, with discussions happening in late 2024. But when you’re represented by Barry Bloom, the agent responsible for landing AEW megadeals for Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada, chances are you’re headed for Tony Khan’s House of Superkicks and Pyro.
WWE even confirmed that as of February 14, they hadn’t signed Alexander, meaning AEW is the expected destination.
TNA’s Farewell to The Walking Weapon
Josh Alexander wrapped up his TNA tenure with a main-event loss to Eric Young on February 13. But don’t let the loss fool you—Alexander leaves as one of TNA’s most decorated stars.
- 2x TNA World Champion (Longest reign in company history)
- 2x TNA Tag Team Champion (Also a long reign, because why not?)
- TNA X-Division Champion (2021)
If you held every major title in a company for record-breaking lengths, you’d probably feel like it’s time for a fresh challenge, too.
What’s Next? Probably Suplexing Everyone in AEW
Assuming the deal is done, AEW just added one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. Expect Josh Alexander to show up, suplex someone out of their boots, and immediately throw himself into a feud with whoever’s standing closest.
With AEW’s stacked roster, the dream matches write themselves:
- Josh Alexander vs. Bryan Danielson? Yes, please.
- Josh Alexander vs. Kenny Omega? Take my money.
- Josh Alexander vs. Samoa Joe? Hoss fight heaven.
No matter what happens, AEW just got a lot more dangerous—and the wrestling world is watching.
