In a move so poetic it might’ve been booked by destiny (or a really on-brand PR team), Living Colour—the band behind CM Punk’s face-melting, reality-altering entrance anthem “Cult of Personality”—will be in Las Vegas during WrestleMania 41 weekend, mere miles from the arena where Punk will headline his first-ever Mania main event.
That’s right. As Punk marches down the ramp to face Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in what could very well be titled “The Tribal Chief, The Visionary, and The Guy Who Hates Authority,” the band responsible for the charisma-laced guitar riff that echoes through the soul of every fed-up wrestling fan will be rocking out nearby at the Fremont Street Experience.
Living Colour is set to hit the stage at 9:00 PM on April 18, just an hour after SmackDown wraps up at the T-Mobile Arena—making it the perfect storm of nostalgia, pyro, and slightly-sweaty wrestling shirts roaming Las Vegas Boulevard.
While WWE hasn’t officially announced Living Colour for a WrestleMania cameo, the band and Punk have a long-standing bromance forged in mutual coolness and lyrical rage. Punk first adopted “Cult of Personality” during his iconic 2011 “Summer of Punk”, a time when ice cream bars were currency and pipe bombs were mic drops.
It’s unclear if they’ll appear on SmackDown’s go-home show, but one thing’s certain: if CM Punk even hears the first notes of that riff echoing through Fremont Street, his promo powers may increase tenfold. It could trigger an involuntary sit-cross-legged-on-the-ramp moment.
Also happening at the Fremont Street Experience: a WWE Championship photo op running from April 13 to 22, so you too can awkwardly cradle a replica title while pretending to be the best in the world. (Just try not to cut a shoot promo on your friends.)
