Ricky Starks has wasted zero time making waves since leaving AEW. On Monday, he was officially granted his release, and by Tuesday, he was already standing in the middle of an NXT ring, letting the world know he’s arrived in WWE.

Now, reports confirm that Starks has signed a WWE contract, making his move official. But there’s one big question left unanswered: Will he still be called Ricky Starks?

WWE Signs Starks, But His Name Might Be Up for Debate

According to PWInsider Elite and Fightful Select, Starks is now listed internally as part of the NXT roster, and the belief is that his deal came together quickly after AEW cut him loose.

However, WWE did not refer to him as “Ricky Starks” on-screen when he appeared, even though the crowd loudly chanted his name. Currently, he’s still listed as Ricky Starks in WWE’s internal documents, but we all know how that goes—things can change in an instant.

If WWE does decide to rename him, expect something comically random like:

  • Rick Starkz (because adding a ‘Z’ is edgy)
  • Richard Flames (for the drama)
  • Slick Ric (wait… that actually kinda works)

Will He Show Up at NXT Vengeance Day?

Starks is not officially booked for NXT Vengeance Day this Saturday, but he was mysteriously pulled from his scheduled indie match against AEW’s Aaron Solo that same night.

Translation? WWE probably wants him for a surprise appearance.

Could we see Starks debut his new ring name (if they give him one) at the show? Will he jump someone mid-match? Or will he just stand on the entrance ramp looking smug while fans lose their minds?

What’s Next?

One thing is certain—Ricky Starks isn’t in limbo anymore. He’s officially in WWE, ready to prove he’s a star on a whole new stage. Whether he does it as Ricky Starks or “Johnny Charisma” (please, WWE, don’t do this) remains to be seen.
