The Ring Boy lawsuit against Vince and Linda McMahon is officially moving forward after a Maryland Supreme Court decision upheld the Child Victims Act of 2023, removing the statute of limitations for historic child abuse cases. With this ruling, nothing stands in the way of the case proceeding.

What’s the Lawsuit About?

Filed in October 2023, the lawsuit was brought by five anonymous plaintiffs who claim that while working as ring boys for WWE, they were sexually abused by longtime WWE ring announcer Mel Phillips. The suit further alleges that the McMahons ignored and fostered an environment that allowed the abuse to occur.

Legal Delays—Now Over

Back in December, the lawsuit was put on hold pending a Maryland Supreme Court decision on whether the Child Victims Act of 2023—which eliminates time limits for filing child sex abuse cases—was constitutional. On Monday, the court ruled 4-3 in favor of upholding the Act, meaning the case can proceed without limitations.

A joint status report filed the same day confirmed that the lawsuit had been waiting on this decision—and now, there’s nothing stopping it from advancing to the next phase.

Vince McMahon’s Legal Troubles Continue

This is just one of many legal battles for Vince McMahon, who is also facing a lawsuit from Janel Grant alleging sex trafficking. Meanwhile, Linda McMahon, who was previously reported to be separated from Vince, has been in the news for her nomination as Secretary of Education by U.S. President Donald Trump—though her appointment has yet to be confirmed by the Senate.

With the Ring Boy lawsuit now moving forward, more details are sure to emerge—and WWE’s legal woes are far from over.
