Wrestling history has seen titles won in ladder matches, cage matches, and even dog food matches—but Steph De Lander may have just pioneered a brand-new stipulation: “Winner Takes the Belt in a Divorce Settlement.”

That’s right, folks—De Lander was awarded the TNA Digital Media Championship by a judge after splitting from former champion PCO. Yes, you read that correctly. TNA, the company that once had a literal wrestling lawyer (Joseph Park, we see you), now has a titleholder whose reign began with legal paperwork instead of a pinfall.

But while fans assumed that De Lander’s unexpected title victory meant she had signed a new deal with TNA, that’s apparently not the case.

De Lander’s Contract Situation: Signed? Nope. Wrestling? Also Nope.

According to Fightful Select, De Lander’s TNA contract actually expired in December, and she hasn’t re-signed. Meaning, technically, TNA’s current Digital Media Champion isn’t even under contract with the company.

To make matters more bizarre, De Lander has barely wrestled in the past year due to an injury suffered in May. Besides a single match in August, she’s been MIA from in-ring competition, and there’s no word on whether she’s even medically cleared to return.

So, to recap:
Has a championship
Not under contract
Not wrestling
Somehow still a champion

Ladies and gentlemen, TNA booking, everybody!

PCO’s Exit: From Champion to Championship Destroyer

Meanwhile, De Lander’s former tag-team/life partner, PCO, didn’t exactly leave TNA on good terms. The monstrous French-Canadian Frankenstein cut a savage promo on TNA at a recent GCW event, then literally destroyed the Digital Media Championship belt in a fit of rage.

Apparently, PCO wasn’t thrilled with how TNA handled his contract negotiations, so instead of just unfollowing them on Twitter like a normal person, he opted for the “Hulk Smash the Title on My Way Out” approach. Respect.

What’s Next for De Lander?

Outside of TNA, De Lander has been killing it on the independent scene, often alongside Matt Cardona (aka “The Indy God”). With no official contract tying her down, there’s a very real chance she might take the belt and defend it… anywhere she wants.

Which, honestly, would be the most “Digital Media” thing ever—a title with no home, roaming the internet like a rogue Netflix password.
