The Rock and Cody Rhodes have been circling each other for nearly a year, exchanging epic promos, cryptic threats, and even one soul-hunting declaration. And yet, despite all the hype, all the tension, and all the WrestleMania-worthy build-up, The Rock now says… they might never actually wrestle.

Wait, what?

The Rock: Wrestling? That’s So Predictable.

Speaking at a press conference after SmackDown, The Rock doubled down on the idea that his ongoing story with Cody doesn’t need to end in the squared circle. Instead, he waxed poetic about the creative magic of a non-wrestling wrestling storyline:

“In the world of pro wrestling, as we all know, everything will culminate in a match. Whatever happens, it will end up in the ring.”

Sounds normal so far. But then he hit us with this curveball:

“With ‘Final Boss’ and Cody Rhodes, it’s not about the WWE title. It’s not about having a match… It never has to culminate in a match. That’s a really special place to be, I think.”

Translation: The Rock doesn’t need to wrestle Cody. He just wants to haunt his life, casually assert his dominance, and possibly own his soul like some kind of Hollywood-meets-supernatural entity.

But If They Don’t Wrestle, What Happens Next?

Rhodes and The Rock already went head-to-head at WrestleMania 40, where The Rock pinned Cody in a tag team match. That alone should have been enough to set up a future one-on-one showdown, but now it seems like The Rock is more interested in mind games than wrist locks.

He called his “Final Boss” character a “white whale” and a “unicorn,” which in wrestling terms means… he does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and probably never on a full-time schedule.

The Road to Elimination Chamber – and More Mind Games

On SmackDown, The Rock told Rhodes he would be waiting at Elimination Chamber on March 1 for his answer—but an answer to what, exactly?

  • Is Cody supposed to pledge loyalty to The Rock?
  • Is he supposed to sign away his soul in some kind of contract?
  • Or is this just The Rock’s long-winded way of saying “I’m busy with movies right now, see you in a year”?

One thing is for sure—when The Rock does decide to throw hands again, it’s going to be big. Until then, we get cryptic promos, power moves disguised as corporate speeches, and the looming possibility that The Rock’s endgame is something even Cody hasn’t figured out yet.

Stay tuned—because whether it’s a match or not, The Rock is playing a long game.
