Just when you thought the commentary table was chaotic enough with Michael Cole dodging pop culture references and Pat McAfee living his best caffeine-fueled life, Tony Hinchcliffe is being added to the mix. That’s right, the stand-up assassin from the Kill Tony podcast will lend his voice—and possibly a few FCC violations—to this Monday’s WWE Raw, sitting in for a tag team title match like it’s open mic night at the Thunderdome.
Hinchcliffe, who’s set to host the upcoming “Roast of WrestleMania” in Las Vegas (because nothing says family-friendly wrestling like a roast with adult supervision nowhere in sight), will join commentary during the War Raiders vs. The New Day match for the World Tag Team Championships. Because if there’s one thing a Viking-themed team and a trombone-wielding unicorn squad need, it’s sarcasm.
Reported by Fightful Select, the plan is to give Hinchcliffe a live mic and let him do what he does best: push boundaries, probably offend at least three sponsors, and somehow make the phrase “hot tag” sound like an insult. He’ll join Cole and McAfee, which feels less like a broadcast team and more like the most unhinged group chat you’ve ever been in.
WWE previously confirmed Hinchcliffe would host the untelevised Roast of WrestleMania following night two of the big show in Vegas at the Fontainebleau. The lineup includes Sami Zayn, The Miz, Paul Heyman, and other people who have insulted each other for free on camera for years—but will now get a stage, a spotlight, and no filter.
It’s unclear if Hinchcliffe will behave, improvise a heel turn, or get powerbombed through a podcast table, but one thing’s for sure: Monday night just got a little more unpredictable, and possibly a lot more awkward.
