In what could be the most unexpected AEW-to-WWE cameo since Cody Rhodes packed his bags, Sting might not be done making WWE appearances after all. Lex Luger has publicly expressed his wish for “The Icon” to be the one to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame, and according to Fightful Select, WWE is working on making it happen.
Sting’s WWE Swan Song?
Sting officially retired from in-ring action at AEW Revolution 2024, capping off a legendary career with a multi-year AEW deal that essentially functions as their version of a WWE Legends contract. While he won’t be throwing Scorpion Death Drops in Tony Khan’s rings anymore, the 64-year-old legend is still involved with AEW.
Now, WWE wants Sting to cross company lines one last time—not for a match, not for an angle, but to honor a longtime friend and rival. Will AEW allow it? That’s the million-dollar question.
What’s the Hold-Up?
According to reports, Sting was originally scheduled to be in Las Vegas for WrestleMania 41 weekend on a limited schedule, but that may now be expanding. WWE is reportedly looking to work with AEW to make this induction possible, though it’s unclear whether AEW would need to officially sign off on the appearance.
Given that WWE and AEW have had all the cooperation of two rival fast-food chains fighting over the same street corner, the idea of AEW greenlighting this is not a guarantee. However, with the event being strictly a Hall of Fame induction and not a WWE storyline, there’s a strong chance Tony Khan won’t stand in the way of two wrestling legends having their moment.
Who Else is Getting Inducted?
Lex Luger will be inducted on April 18, joining a class that includes Triple H and Michelle McCool. He also named Diamond Dallas Page as another person he’d like to induct him. DDP has been instrumental in helping Luger regain strength in his quest to walk again, making him another meaningful choice.
Rumors also suggest that the Natural Disasters (Typhoon & Earthquake) might be joining the Hall of Fame class, but WWE hasn’t confirmed that yet.
So, will AEW’s most legendary face be making an appearance on WWE’s most legendary stage to honor an old friend? Stay tuned—because if this actually happens, it’ll be one of the biggest feel-good surprises of the year.
