Well, folks—pack up the masks, cancel that Bourbon Street balcony spot, and tell your aunt she can return that WWE-logoed king cake: WrestleMania 42 will no longer be taking place in New Orleans.
Despite The Rock announcing back in February (with his signature eyebrow of conviction) that the Mercedes-Benz Superdome would host the Grandest Stage of Them All on April 11 and 12, 2026, WWE has now done a full-on suplex reversal. A statement from The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation confirmed what many fans were starting to suspect: WrestleMania 42 is relocating. And no, they didn’t say where it’s going. It’s not a party—it’s a cliffhanger.
“We’re still friends,” New Orleans said, clutching a consolation prize of UFC 318 in July 2025 and Money in the Bank 2026 like a bouquet after being left at the altar.
The announcement came with all the usual corporate pleasantries and none of the juicy details. WWE fans are left speculating: Was it scheduling conflicts? Construction delays? Did someone in creative decide the Superdome lacked cinematic drone potential?
Whatever the reason, this marks a missed three-peat for NOLA, which previously hosted WrestleMania 30 (Bryan-mania) and WrestleMania 34 (the one where Roman couldn’t beat Brock with 12 spears and divine intervention). WrestleMania 42 would’ve made it three in 11 years—a hat trick of headlocks, if you will.
Meanwhile, WWE’s summer plans are looking to the northeast. In a totally unrelated but definitely attention-shifting move, the company is reportedly set to rake in $7.1 million from New Jersey for hosting the first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium this August. Because if you can’t have Mardi Gras, you might as well have overpriced parking and pyro visible from Newark.
