Get ready, America. WWE is back with Backlash 2025, the annual event that screams “We’re not done with WrestleMania yet!” – live from the Enterprise Center, also known as the building that had to book Randy Orton before he stopped showing up for family barbecues.
This year’s card is stacked with revenge, drama, awkward parenting metaphors, and GUNTHER assaulting a beloved voice of the people. Let’s break it down.
MAIN EVENT:
John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton – Undisputed WWE Championship
This one’s being billed as the final encounter between two men who have fought so many times, their match should be called “Chapter Infinity.” Cena, fresh off turning Cody Rhodes into yesterday’s stardust, got surprise-RKO’d and challenged by Orton – a man who now delivers fatherhood advice like he’s Dr. Phil with biceps.
Cena fired back with the line of the year:
“I’ve spent 25 years raising everyone else’s children.”
This, of course, earned him another RKO and a strongly-worded email from every child support agency in the country.
Match of the Podcast People:
GUNTHER vs. Pat McAfee
GUNTHER, having tapped out to Jey Uso and lost his grip on reality, decided to attack Michael Cole, the voice of a generation (and likely his own internal monologue). Pat McAfee, podcasting powerhouse and noted tank-top enthusiast, stepped in to defend his buddy and got choked out like a rookie in jiu-jitsu class.
Now, GUNTHER faces suspension, McAfee faces the hospital, and Goldberg faces relevance if those return rumors are true.
Fatal Four-Way for the “Who Wants to Lose to Jacob Fatu” Title:
Jacob Fatu (c) vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre vs. LA Knight
It’s the match equivalent of throwing four wild horses into a Waffle House. Chaos is guaranteed, and LA Knight is legally required to yell “YEAH!” every 12 seconds or lose his tax exemption status.
IC Title Match:
Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta
It’s “Fatherless Behavior” vs. “Facepainted Fury.” Will Penta snap Dom like a Slim Jim? Will Rey Mysterio call in via Zoom to apologize on behalf of genetics? Tune in and find out.
Women’s IC Title Match:
Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch is back, bad, and blonde again – turning heel faster than a toddler in dress shoes. She attacked Bayley to secure her tag title win with Lyra… only to lose them in record time. Now, she’s fighting for singles gold and possibly forgiveness from the internet.
Bayley-watch 2025 is in effect. Alert your local stan groups.
Probably Not Happening But Definitely Might:
Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul – World Heavyweight Title (???)
Logan Paul attacked Uso like a TikTok thirst trap with fists, but the match isn’t official. It could happen on Saturday Night’s Main Event, or Logan might just start another energy drink company instead. Stay tuned.
